Top 10 Childhood Books…

Hello everyone! I am back in England and writing my blog posts because I have nothing scheduled any more, as some of you may know, I’m going back to school soon for another stressful, god-awful great and productive year of school and it got me thinking about the past (actually, it didn’t, but it makes for a nice intro) and all the books I read alone in the book corner of primary school because for a significant amount of time I had no friends 🙂 enough with the sob story, though, today I’m going to share with you my top 10 favourite childhood books/authors, featuring books I sat and read in one sitting to my favourite old picture books…

Lets get the obvious out of the way, by now, we all know I love Harry Potter more than pretty much everything the entire universe has to offer, these books and this story mean more to me than I’ll ever be able to put into words and I adore this series, I can’t count how many times I’ve read the books, nor can I remember a time where this series was not a part of my life. FUN FACT: I used to have a crush on Ron and I made him part of my family on the Sims and it was awful lol

If you don’t know, The Chocolate Box Girls is a series written by Cathy Cassidy and is probably one of the more ‘grown up’ series on this list (by this, I mean it mentions the words boyfriend and kiss, my 6-year-old self was scandalised)

But anyway, THESE BOOKS WERE SO GOOD, I used to read them every morning in primary school (and also in my tray during class if I could get away with it). tHis series actually dealt with some pretty deep stuff (eating disorders in one of the books if i remember correctly) but yeah, I loved these books and would 100% read them again if I could find my copies… if I still have them

If you’re British, I’m almost certain you have heard of or read a book by good old Jackie W, I loved every single book this woman published from her very first book to somewhere around Queenie,I used to devour any book written by Jacqueline Wilson in one sitting, and then promptly write a completely rubbish review on it (so not very different to what I do now with books), because I love embarrasing myself, I will now quote some reviews that I wrote when I was 7 that I found:

• “OMG BUY IT NOW amazing book I could not put it down I was sat in my room for hours wanting to read more every time I read another word I’m telling you that you have to buy this book RIGHT NOW” – my review for Lily Alone
• Okay I just found another review but it is so cringe and I don’t think i want it on the internet, maybe another time…

 

Once again, these books could deal with some tough stuff, like mentally unstable parents in The Illustrated Mum and a very full-on death in My Sister Jodie and I was reading these books from probably six years old up to when I was about nine because although I was at the point where I read YA, I just couldn’t let go. (I also still watch Tracy Beaker whenever it’s on BBC iPlayer because I’m mature)

I’m still forever heartbroken that there was never a book with my name and I think i always will be, but anyway, I had a box-set of like 100 of these books (which I don’t have any more because i gave them to my baby cousin because I didn’t realise keeping childhood books was important for future blog posts, apparently.) that I read in literally a month because I loved these books so much, from what I remember the gist of these books was that a girl would just be doing her thing and then the fairies needed help or something because they couldn’t do anything for themselves and they’d all work together to defeat the evil ice-men, and at the same time, discover the true meaning of friendship, it was some uplifting experience whenever you read one of these bad boys.

This series was pure excellence I’m not even kidding. These books followed a group of girls who uncovered crazy scandals and stuff behind celebrity gossip and it was so fun, I read these books like eight times and every time they’d discover what was going on I acted all shook even though I literally knew exactly what was going to happen because I’d read it before…

I used to love these books in I think Year 2 just because of how funny Lemony Snicket is, I used to genuinely laugh out loud reading these books and I completely adore them, up to this day I find them hilarious and dark and brilliant.

Okay so I remember nothing about the storyline of these books but i do remember that the writing was really similar to Lemony Snicket’s and was the funniest thing in the world to me and if I can remember finding a book so funny that it made my smile the day some kid stole my mushroom eraser then it can be on my list.

I think this one is pretty self-explanatory, because after being made fun of for doing my work and being a teachers pet and reading all the time, I got a character that was all the things I was and literally magical.

Literally everyone my age has read these books and loved them, and to this day, when a teacher sets us homework to read more, at least one kid will ask if Diary of a Wimpy Kid counts. Not only did I love these books but I also used to go and see the movies in the cinema with my cousin and I loved the first two or three except for the bit where they showed some kid’s bogies, which was gross.

I remember reading this years and years and years ago and just completely loving it, this book (if you haven’t heard of it) is about a girl who has to stay in the mountains or the countryside or something and she meets this girl in a wheelchair and then she learns to walk and its all very emotional and I adored it and I really hope I still have my old copy of this with all the pretty pictures somewhere…

 And there we have it!
