My Favourite Book To Film Adaptations…

‘The book is always better than the movie’- Every person who has read the book and watched the movie (including me)

BUT there are some adaptations that, although are still never as good as the books, do a great job, so I thought we could discuss them here, let’s get started!

Obvious one, I know, but even though these movies are pretty far from the books, they are amazing and you can’t deny it. The amount of effort that went into the intricacy and detailing of these movies is mind-blowing, I think it’d be hard to find a Harry Potter fan who would say no to sitting down for over 19 hours and watching these movies back-to-back. Also, if you’ve come to London and been to the studio tour and have seen just how much work went into these movies, you’d find a newfound appreciation for them.

If you was online on the 17th of August, you saw this movie blow up, and rightfully so, Netflix made a movie adaptation of this book and it was the cutest, fluffiest, squishiest thing I’ve watched in my life and it made me all happy and stuff. It also gave everyone a newfound obsession with Noah Centineo, so that’s great.

CORALINE IS LITERALLY ONE OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS IN THE WORLD AND NOBODY TALKS ABOUT IT AND IT KILLS ME. I love both the movie and the book, the movie is pretty different to the books and added a new character (Wybie) but nonetheless both are brilliant and eerie and wonderful.

I love these movies, they always came out near my birthday so I’d go and see them in the cinema on the days leading up to it and they just make me so happy, this series was probably the first YA I read and I like to credit it with ensuring I never fell out of love with reading once I got older.

John Green movie adaptations are pretty much just like his books: mushy, gooey and fluffy. What’s not to love?

Barely anyone I talk to about this has heard of it and I don’t know why, I read this book for school in Year 8 and I fell in love with it, I watched the movie, printed out a photo of Ponyboy and ‘stay gold’ was written on my hand in biro every single day.

I adored this movie and the books that went along with them, because it was so long ago, I can’t for the life of me remember whether I watched the movie or read the books first, but I adored both of them, my mum always yells at me because ‘I’ve watched the movie too many times already’ buuuuuuut I don’t care…

      2. They stuffed too much story in too little time. Should have made two parts. And the directing was disastrous. They dramatised everything too much to the point of annoyance.

      3. Agree to disagree. I love the second and third movies to death. I love the first one too but it doesn’t compare to the two towers and return of the King. The arc of strider to aragorn from 1-3 was tremendously done.

      4. The Aragorn thing I agree with. But if you have read the book, it’s pretty obvious how much they cut out in the main thing – ex. The Mouth of Sauron. Even after all such cutting it felt rushed . The main thing took place in 4 days or such

      5. I think that’s part of why I like the movies … it’s kinda like Game of Thrones. My ADD can’t take 30 pages to describe a tree. Yes I read the LOTR (all three books). I REFUSE to read GOT and that might be my favorite show ever. But I’m not reading 800 pages where 200 pages is tyrian describing the water. I don’t care how damn witty he is lol.

      6. I think that’s just lazy. The length should not be a factor on liking/disliking a book. It helps you in connecting with the characters ( and they have a ton of characters) and it helps you feel for the world. And the book storyline is easily twice as big as the show storyline. There’s actually a THIRD TARGARAYEN, with a better claim to the Throne than everybody else.

      9. Double apology I thought I mentioned it in the previous post. 🙂 It isn’t the length of the book… It’s the content. I can read an 800 page book as long as it moves. When it deviates (like the tommy knockers by Stephen king which isn’t even 800 pages but deviates into a hundred page back history of the town that has nothing to do with an otherwise incredible book…I can’t lol) same theory… When I first started watching GOT I immediately went to the reviews on Amazon for the books and when I started seeing one after another of … If you have hard time with Tolkien’s x y and z kind of writing run don’t walk… I knew. But I still checked one out from the library to be sure .. and they were right. It was just too much. But the show .. I love the show. And I think Jon Snow is very much strider/aragorn in a lot of ways. Well truthfully I think all George RR Martin’s money and awards belong to Tolkien except he his characters aren’t purely good and evil.. as time goes on you see a mix. I love Jamie. If you told me that in episode two I probably would have punched you.

      11. Omg I didn’t even realise, I’ve never concentrated in the names of them I just watch the movies because my dad likes them and I’ve only ever read the Hobbit and book one in lotr, sorry for the confusion

  3. OMG YES TO THE OUTSIDERS! Absolutely loved that adaption! Potter will of course be a classic adaption in my books too. But Ugh, TATBILB literally made me swoon in more ways than I have swooned before. IT. WAS. SO. GOOD. ❤

  7. I wathed To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before in the weekend with my friend and we both loved it. Neither of have read the books though.

    My favorite book to film adaptations are The Mortal Instruments and The Host. I also liked Fifty Shades Of Grey movies but I haven’t seen the last one yet.

    1. I actually think I liked the TATBILB movie more than the book which is a first for me, a lot of people hate the TMI movie but I loooove Jamie Campbell Bower sooo I still love it, iv never watched or read The Host or Fifty Shades though

  8. Aaaah The Hunger Games for me, is on par with the books. I think they did a really good job with it, I also loved the books. It was my dad who introduced me to it though, funnilty enough I saw the first film then I went and read all three books. SO GOOD. The Maze Runner for me, the films surpass the books but I also read the first book, DNFed the second and rest of the series, I just didn’t get on with them. I lost interest but my god those films…NEWT MY PRECIOUS *wails*

    1. Yes!! The Hunger Games movies were amazing I loved them sooo much honestly the maze runner just confused me while I was reading it the movie was just better imo 😬😂 thank you sm for reading I’m glad you enjoyed ❤️
