Summer Book Haul and TBR

Hellloooo lovelies, so I did a poll on twitter asking what to post and my summer book haul was the winner, so here we are! For those of you who don’t know, I’m off to Greece for nine days on the 22nd of August, and my main priority while I’m there is to do nothing and read (and also eat, our resort serves chicken nuggets) so the second the holiday was booked, the book shopping began and I thought I’d show you all what I got/what I plan to read while I’m away, so lets get started!

This books a chunky one, over 1200 pages of clowns and gore, so I thought it’d be a really good book to read on the plane, where there will be a few hours of uninterrupted reading. and i also thought thinking about all the horrors that could be occurring on the ground would distract me from my anxiety on planes, so its a win-win!

If you know me, you know I rarely read mystery/thriller books, but there are a couple of them in this haul, I don’t know why but all the mysteries and thrillers I looked at really appealed to me for some reason. So, from what I gathered, this book is about a rich family with some super dark secrets, our main protagonists mother has gone missing and her father has built a house to (presumably) protect them and keep others out, she soon realises it was actually built to keep her in *dun dun duuuuuun* (sorry if I did a rubbish job at explaining that, goodreads links are under every book). I thought this would be a good beach-read that isn’t too trashy but also isn’t too complex (I never get confused by mysteries, which apparently is rare, but I watch a lot of Sherlock so that could be why)

I’ve grown to despise the writing of Sarah J Maas and most of the characters in her books, but I refuse to have wasted all the hours I spent reading the previous Throne of Glass books and I want to finish the series, so i thought the holiday might be a good time to get myself to read this (it might be another plane book because then I’ll have nothing to do). Also Aelin and Rowan aren’t in this, so maybe I wont hate it as much…?

Alexandra from Twirling Pages  love for this series made me want to check it out, and it actually sounds really interesting, I have a lot of Bracken’s books on my TBR but I’ve read none of them and I often like reading sci-fi/ dystopian when I have time to sit and read huge chunks in one go, so I figured a holiday was the best time!

Back at it with the mystery, I love the sound of this and since we’ve started studying Jack the Ripper at school, my interest has spiked and I’m really interested in reading about him, in fiction of non-fiction.

Surprisingly, I only have one contemporary on this list, I thought I’d have so many more but none were really ~speaking to me~ except for this one, I thought this would be a really cute and fluffy, light-hearted read for a holiday and I;ve wanted to read a Morgan Matson book for the longest time, so again, a holiday was the right place and the right time!

  1. I actually did a lot of reading at the beach this year. It was so calm and relaxing. Some of these books look really good and I’ll definitey have to add them to my tbr list 🙂

  2. I love holiday book shopping! I’ve not long finished Save the Date actually and I absolutely ADORED it. Typical Morgan Matson style, but also actually laugh-out-loud funny (not kidding, I know people say that all the time but really their face remains unchanged but I swear I made noises). Hope you love it as much as I did!!

  3. I thought I’d dislike Tower Of Dawn because there’s no Rowaelin and I’m not big fan of Chaol but surprisingly I enjoyed it.

I ordered The Darkest Minds but it was cancelled because it’s out of stock and I still want to read it because I don’t want to see the movie before reading it but I just don’t want to read it as much anymore.

I have mixed feelings for Stalking Jack The Ripper. I usually don’t like horror or mystery but I really want to try that series, especially because I think it was book two that was about Dracula.

Today is actually last day of my vacation. Tomorrow it’s back to school 😦

    1. I’ll probably like tower of dawn because I hate rowaelin and love chaol, so we’re tho opposite on that one, luckily I ordered TDM before they changed to movie cover but I haven’t read it and it isn’t high priority for holiday but hopefully I’ll get it done so I can write a review, I haven’t read it yet but I think I’ll only read the first book in this series, but you never know I might really love it. omg that’s so horrible, is it because you aren’t from the uk that you’re starting up again now? I’m about half way through the holidays but they’re going waaaaay to fast for my liking!!
